a: your best piece of creative work before coming to this course, think laterally if you have not done "conventional" art or design work
Di Sotto In Su; From below, upward
The inspiration of my 2019 HSC Visual Arts major work was derived from the duality of traditional Eastern and Western art conventions. The centrepiece of my work takes both aspects of Japanese Edo Period woodblock prints and designed in the formation of European fresco mural paintings. My experience in portraiture was interwoven into my centrepiece, depicting four Asian-Australian women to convey the idea of push and pull between Western and Eastern cultures and the concept of conformity into one categorisation under one culture as opposed to a simultaneous existence.
b: an image of a great piece of architecture
ZAHA HADID - MAXXI Museum, Rome, Italy (2009)
Hadid's MAXXI Museum rejects the traditional ideals of architecture to allow the interior and exterior of a building to co-exist. The minimalistic materials and tones used by Hadid draw out the organic nature of her design such as the use of non-linear lines on the ceiling to bring light and the 'exterior' into the building.
c: an original photograph of something beautiful
Cozumel, Mexico (2019)
The image above was captured on my recent trip to Cozumel, Mexico towards the end of 2019. As I was leaving the port, I noticed this man playing the guitar as though the world around him had disappeared and he had become completely encapsulated within his own music and world. I found this picture to be humorous and somewhat ironic due to the sign 'I am playing only for tips', completely undermining my assumption of a true passion for music.
Step 4: find an image showing a creative work from each of the companies/designers below (they will be your clients in experiment 1) and describe it using a noun, verb and adjective; see below for examples.
